Chemistry 1201 Chapter 5

  

  There are several important concepts you should learn in chapter 5. These are: energy and heat; enthalpy; and Hess's Law. Energy and Heat

  Energy changes that occur during a chemical reaction are due to the making and breaking of bonds:
  • Energy is released during the forming of bonds
  • Energy is absorbed during the breaking of bonds.
  Heat is energy in transit.
